GOLDEN AND CONSTANT
Renee Carlson

When I think of Gene I also think of Charlotte, because, in my mind, they belonged together and were inseparable. They were married young, and so were Jack and I. In fact, they married one month before we went to the altar. Prior to our marriages, we were double-daters, going to the Avalon for dancing, the Skillet for hamburgers, and the Centre Theater for movies. We laughed a lot together and loved good conversation and the world of ideas.

Charlotte had a baby every year that I did. And, even though they went away on a mission and Jack entered the Air Force, we kept up with each other. Our minds were on the same wave-length, and whenever we would see each other on visits to California or Salt Lake, we picked up where we left off. We had a comfortable understanding and we all knew each other well.

Even though Jack and I lived in the Eastern part of the United States and Charlotte and Gene chose to return toUtah, our friendship never diminished. We continued to love and understand each other. Their friendship is golden and constant. Even though both Jack and Gene are gone from us, we all still know each other. There is an earnestness and goodness that shines through our friendship and those feelings never die. They continue to warm my heart in appreciation for our lives together.
