Celebrate Eugene England at Sunstone 2010

By Eugene England Foundation

Eugene England for the Twenty-First Century

The Eugene England Foundation is sponsoring a panel about Eugene England and this website at this year’s Salt Lake Sunstone Symposium. Our session is on Thursday, 5 August, 11:15am to 12:45pm at the Salt Lake City Sheraton Hotel (150 West 500 South). Admission is included with symposium registration, or you can attend via a single session ticket for $6.

The session will include:

Dan Wotherspoon, Eugene England website project director, introducing the website.

Jody England Hansen, Eugene’s daughter, taking attendees through a tour of classic England family photos (and what was really happening behind the scenes).

Charlotte Hawkins England, Eugene’s wife, talking about their mission together to Samoa during the first years of their marriage.

Charlotte Hansen, Eugene’s granddaughter, speaking about the Eugene England Papers, which will be available for research at the University of Utah Marriott Library Special Collections beginning in 2011.

Rebecca England, Eugene’s daughter, giving context to Elder Bruce R. McConkie’s notorious 1981 letter to Professor England.

We hope to see you at the session!

I’m so very disappointed I won’t be attending Sunstone this year and will miss this session to celebrate Eugene England and this website. Makes me wanna cry. But still, there IS this website, and I’m looking forward to diving more deeply into it to remember and to expand the influence that Eugene England has had on my life, my thinking, and my writing, both directly and indirectly. What a legacy! I feel privileged to have known Gene England even a little bit–and to know, even better, his son Mark as a good friend. This father lives on in his writing and in the thousands of people’s lives he’s touched, but also very much in his son.
